Drew Hickey is a versatile and industrious backrower who can also play lock. Over the past four years, he has represented NSW and Australia at U19 and U21 level, as well as the Australian Barbarians and Sevens.

Hickey is an aggressive defender who played a valuable part in Sydney University’s last two Citibank MasterCard Cup Grand Final appearances. His speed to the breakdown and hunger for the ball makes him a formidable candidate to fill Stu Pinkerton’s shoes.

He has a degree in commerce and is another from Sydney`s rugby nursery, St. Joseph`s College..

The battle between the Tooheys New Cup heavyweights went the full distance on Saturday when Sydney University defeated Eastwood 24–20 in a gripping encounter at T G Millner Field. Sydney University winger Ben Martin capped a marvellous game by scoring four tries for the Students and, in the process, earned his team a bonus point and the competition lead. Martin, an arts student who celebrated his 20th birthday last Friday, was one of many fine performers for the winners. But nobody played better than flanker Drew Hickey, in his last game for the University before departing for English club Orrell. The Students will miss his services.
