| The game kicked off in wonderful conditions with great expectations from both sides and their supporters | |

Immediately from the kick off it was clear The Warriors were in no mood to take any prisoners. The sheer intensity and commitment could be felt in the stands. Swanepoel and Chalmers were orchestrating the whole show, keeping the ball moving and the Orrell defence guessing where the next attack was coming from. The ball retention was putting enormous pressure on their creaking defence. Eventually a penalty kick to the corner and resultant lineout yielded another penalty which Craig Chalmers stroked beautifully between the uprights. Every opportunity to score had to be taken, this side had scored 70 points the previous week and were obviously a side to respect, they had come to Sixways to win and were not going to roll over. |

Orrell kicked off and The Warriors attacked and boy did they go for it! It was starting to become a one team show lead by Werner Swanepoel. Once again after massive pressure Orrell conceded yet another penalty Werner took the quick ball and slipped it to Duncan Roke who in the space of 5 meters skipped inside one player and then outside two others to go over behind the posts. Orrell looked and probably felt totally bemused. Craig Chalmers stepped up and once again stroked the ball with supreme confidence through the uprights to give The Warriors a 10 - 0 lead |

This was the signal for the start
of the best 30 minutes of rugby ever seen at Sixways not just
because Worcester were dominating play but the method it was
applied.
Orrell were also playing their part in this, they covered and tackled like demons, they are a fit, strong side well organised and coached. They just could not live with The Warriors. Every player was contributing with power and great determination. The ball was being recycled at incredible speed and kept alive in passing movements that at times left us all transfixed at their speed and execution. The supporting players were there every time to continue the movement in yet another direction and who was directing play yes you have it Werner and Craig absolutely incredible rugby. On the rare occasion Orrell took possession the ferocious tackling and intense pressure applied by The Warriors defence was a wonderful display of attacking defence. At each point Orrell were forced backwards making mistakes and clearly had no patterns against this sort of defence. Eventually Orrell were caught offside and up came the maestro and stroked it over to put Worcester 13 - 0 in the lead. It was this intensive tackling that lead to the second try, a crunching tackle by winger Chris Garrard on the Orrell inside center dislodged the ball and Werner pounced, like the leopard he is, made a half break great pass to Craig (yet again) who with bewildering speed slipped the ball out, two more changes of direction and inter-passing from Hinshelwood and Officer and the big man, Mark Gabey all 18 stone of him, had come up on the outside and scored in the corner. The stadium just erupted it was a magic moment that will live in our minds for weeks to come, until the next one, and that was not long in coming. Orrell once again had another short spell of possession but their lines of attack were very predictable and the sheer intensity of The Warriors tackling was taking its toll forcing errors which made life very difficult for their backs. |

About the half hour Chalmers
was replaced (after some clear targeting) by
James Brown. This was no respite for
the Orrell defence James plays with
great skill and is quick in thought and deed. If Phil Jones is
reputedly the third best flyhalf in England then today he received a
lesson on how to play flyhalf.
Within minutes James with interplay from Werner and the backrow sent out an outrageous pass which gave David Officer all the space he needed and David does not need asking twice. He burst through and split the defence wide open to lay the ball out to Duncan Roke and Old Rubber Legs was in another try for the irrepressible Roke. This time up stepped Mr Cool, who with consummate ease converted the try to take the score to Warriors 25 - Orrell 0. Just before half time the ever dangerous Chris Garrard was put away and with no defence in sight could see yet another try in the bag, unfortunately the referee disagreed and brought him back for a forward pass |

| The second half
started with once again The Warriors on
the attack, an astute tactical kick from
Duncan Roke left him in pain from a hip injury and was
replaced for safety, on came Gary Trueman
and that gave no succour to the beleaguer Orrell defence.
However this disruption and the fact that Orrell are a fully
professional side and are a good side saw them hold possession for a
period of time but were unable to breach The
Warriors defencive shield (bodies lots of them who tackle,
tackle and tackle again).
Then came a defining moment for the team Werner was asked to take a rest for 10 minutes while the rest continued to play. It was during this spell that the first piece of indecision by the stand in scrum half, (James Brown) produced an unforced error and as good as they are Orrell swooped to score under the posts which was duly converted by Phil Jones. |

| A typical example of Orrell getting the ball
away in the tackle and yet another Warriors
player comes in to make another tackle.
On Werner's return, now back to 15 men The Warriors regained the dominance and intense pressure realised a lineout close to the line and quick ball all along the line a cut back in to straighten up the defence and then another quick recycle enabled Chris Garrard to get his well deserved try. From this point on the game was dominated by The Warriors attacking flair and the Orrell's dogged defence. |

Full Time Warriors 35 - Orrell 10 |
| Observations:
1. This is what John Brain, Andy Keast and the whole team have been working towards since January 2002. It may only lasted for 30 minutes continuously in the first half and then in 4/5 minute bursts but this is only the second game of the season and match fitness is still to come. A brilliant display of dynamic 15 man rugby, not just set ploys but the true ability of players to think and make decisions FAST. 2. There is some improvement needed in the set piece could have been tighter, but when all are looking to be involved this can happen. 3. We still do not have penetration yet on both wings. I think with the inclusion of Nnamdi Ezulike we would have seen two more tries. 4. The lineout was good, we hit the man and put pressure on the opposition ball taking some. We have to watch the clean-up when we steal and be prepared to go through on their loose ball. 5. The whole team were magnificent and the intensive training out in Durban has paid off. JB & AK must be thrilled. We have found in Werner Swanepoel a general who instils confidence and the leadership skills to really get the best out of his team. A Fabulous, Fabulous display. It will be shown on Sky in Rugby club and as Dawie Morris predicted a big win for Orrell (did he play for Orrell by any chance) I wonder what he will have say |
