Having arrived the previous afternoon the team were seen early. Warming and stretching their cramped muscles ready to take on, the always tough side from Otley. The warm-up as can be seen from Christian's face was what we expect from Peter Finch "Tough and Unsympathetic, there is no gain without pain, goes up the call" |

The visiting crowd cheered into the arena their Warrior hero's
and the smile on the player's faces said it all, "thanks we are
proud of OUR support", 3 hours and 200 miles up the motorway and
we can still out shout the home crowd!
The referee blew the whistle, up stepped Steve Binns and we were off. The first 120 seconds carried on from where we left off against Orrell, on the attack and at speed. The ball was moved from side to side, recycled, driven and recycled again, just stopping short of the line. What an electric start, the fans were ecstatic!!! |

| However for the next 10 minutes The warriors struggled to come to terms with the Otley forwards mauling techniques. They had no answer when Otley changed direction either at the maul or driving from the lineout. It was this weakness that was the cause of a well deserved try from Otley. Lineout ball was won by Otley who drove forward changing direction twice which caused the Warriors forwards to lose shape leaving a clear gap, a quick feed out and over they went for the first try. Otley continued to use this ploy throughout the game and The Warriors never came to terms with it. |

The Warriors even though going behind were playing the better
rugby. Their ability to recycle the ball and create multiple
phases of play were now starting to dominate proceedings. They
put together a scintillating passage of rugby over 14 phases of
play going from side to side and forcing Otley back onto their
line in the corner. They finally gave away a penalty, which
Werner Swanepoel took quickly, moving swiftly to his left, timed
a beautiful pass to Craig Chalmers who half showed the ball to
the defence and skipped in under the post. The try was duly
converted by his nibbs (Craig himself) and The Warriors were on
equal terms.
The Warriors were not about to let this one slip and piled on the pressure. Once again the speed of recycling was prominent with Mark Gabey and Christian Evans really starting to make dents into the Otley defence. Once again Otley were forced back onto their line, a change of direction from Ben Hinshelwood wrong footed the defence and he was pulled down just short of the line, in fired the Warriors, ball recycled in a flash and Mark Gabey had the easiest of jobs to dive(or was it fall) over the line for the second try. Unfortunately Craig missed the conversion. Otley managed to kick straight out, from the resulting scrum the ball was whipped out to the left a half break from David Officer and away went Nnamdi to score in the corner. I feel sure I saw steam coming off the grass. |

| The next try came within 3 minutes. Again a passage of play was put together, but this time it only took 3 phases to break down the defence. A superb ball from Swanepoel to Chalmers, moved right, drew the attention, passed to David Officer who moved it with mystifying speed to Duncan Roke, a pass which left the crowd and the Otley defence gasping. The space created was all that was needed and no-one was going to stop Old Rubber Legs from here. Try number 4, the bonus point and converted by that man again to take Worcester into a 24 to 7 lead |

Otley pegged back the score with a beautifully taken dropped
goal by Steve Binns.
The Warriors again were putting together some incredible passages of play, on every occasion making ground, at the point of tackle they were always the first there and had the ball moving again before the defence could get into position. The warriors went through a 9 phase display of awesome rugby culminating in a typically brilliant inside break from Craig Chalmers who ran fully 35 meters untouched before slipping a perfectly timed pass the ever present "sniffer" Officer who stormed over for the 5th try. Once again up stepped Craig and "stroked" it beautifully between the posts. Very shortly afterwards "Sniffer" was there again but this time it was his speed and power which left the defence in tatters for try Number 6 |

| Craig got the
second half underway. It was clear the Otley coaches had had a
word with the team, they attacked the Warriors with everything
and now started to put some passages of play together. Once
again they had The warriors on the rack by moving the point of
pressure in the drives and mauls. After 7 or 8 minutes of
pressure and immense defence the "attacking" Otley team were
forced backwards. A chance was seen and Ben Hinshelwood showed
why he was selected for Scotland with fabulous clean break and
ran the ball in from his own 22. I must say well done to Nnamdi
who caught him up and tracked him waiting for the pass and
drawing away a player. From attacking defence to attack and a
try in the flash of Scotsman's eye.
Once more The Warriors were on the defence but looked likely to score at any time. It did not take long, a quick recycle, slipped pass to Duncan Roke and he was away again. Splitting the Otley defence to shreds and who was on hand to take the glory (it wasn't that easy) you've got it "sniffer" Officer and the "Hat-Trick" try duly converted by the maestro once again. Now came the big moment on came Richard Bates for his first outing and the last 15 minutes. Now he is big, tough and very fast as will be seen later |

| The Otley center makes a great break leaving the Warriors mid-field for dead. look on the far right, yep the big man all 6ft 5ins and 18 stone sprints after him and hauls him down after 25 meters with an all enveloping tackle that made sure The warriors recycled the ball and attacked back. No wonder he played center for South Africa he is mighty quick and very very committed |

| This time the
inside break from the same center is stopped by none other than
Gavin "Mr Dynamo" Pfister. It was during this part of the game
with a man in the sin bin that Otley scored a well deserved
converted try. Then struck lucky with a bounce, that if Ben
Hinshelwood had taken would have been another try to The
warriors, scoring out on the left which the ever reliable Steve
Binns Stroked over the bar. Otley were determined that this
would be the last score of the day and finish on the up, however
The warriors though differently!!
Yet another sequential passage of play saw young Jon Higgins show great skill but he was pulled down before completing the break. The ball was again recycled and passed out to Craig Gilles the flying lock(whose juggling skills will now be practiced by all players), who made the break and passed out to Chris Garrard who stormed over for his 5 try of the season. |

| Another superb break and slipped pass saw Gary Trueman power over the fifth and final try. |

| Game ended with handshakes all round with hat-trick Man to the fore |
| Final Score The Warriors 62 - Otley 24 |
|
Observations:
1. The Threequarters look as if they can score from anywhere slick and confident 2. The forwards retain and recycle ball fast and look very fast, fit and handle like the backs 3. The tight 5 did not look so tight and found it difficult to hold Otley 4. On their lineout we are susceptible to drives and we found the moving maul a real threat losing many yards. Luckily our back row and mid-field is very strong in defence. But we have to work on this area.
Another good win and the team is really coming together their work rate, commitment and support for each other is immense. They really do look like team going places and are hungry for the victories and glory of THE WARRIORS
