The second half of the season starts right here and now!!

It was time to right the first display of the season up at Otley.

Otley were rightly 4th in the league with one of the best packs and defences in the league. This was not going to be an easy game, for either side

For the 4th time this season the crowd was in excess of 3,000, a great turnout.

They were here to see their favourite Warriors hopefully win their 14th game of the season.

We saw the return of Chris Garrard, Chris Evans and Gavin Pfister

Tommy Hayes playing at fly-half got the game underway. Not a great take from Otley.

This allowed the Warriors to get onto the attack in the first minutes of the game

The Warriors do not need a second asking to attack through their powerful forwards. Immediately testing out the strength of this vaunted Otley Pack.

Would this be the game we were to be held or even beaten up front. Many of the Division1 pundits had prophesised the fall of the Worcester 8 against Otley.

Well, this did not happen!! Worcester were in control of all the forwards encounters from first whistle to last. However Otley pushed them the closest of all the teams played this season. They are a big powerful unit well organised and more mobile than expected.

Predictably the first 10 minutes of the game were dominated by forward encounters, as the Worcester 8 drove the Otley back time and again, in the mauls and set pieces. The set piece may not have moved far but it was enough to disrupt any sort of service from the base
It is not only Craig Gillies who dominates the line but with Mark Gabey, Drew Hickey and the speed of lift it is very difficult to disrupt the Worcester line.

It was not all about forward play, we saw some delightful moves in the backs from Gary Trueman and Ben Hinshelwood.

Drew Hickey is not only a thinking No 8 he is a true athlete who soars into the air as jet propelled, taking clean ball every time. Instantly his feet touch terra firma on comes the devastating power, with legs pumping them just drive all before them

Push cars mile after mile on the training field is paying big dividends

Otley were giving penalties away like confetti in their ultimate desire to stop and slow down the Worcester Possession. Ben Hinshelwood each time hit howitzer shells deep into the Otley corners for the renown Worcester "Catch & Drive". Otley or more accurately Worcester mistakes were the only reason for a clean score sheet so far.

This was finally to end. Another super take by Craig and a change of attack moved the ball away from the Otley main defence, enough for the forwards to regroup and set up an unstoppable drive for the try scoring machine Gavin Pfister (sure his name is not Back) to score a try duly converted by Tommy Hayes, didn't he have his kicking boots on today!!

From the kick-off it was straight back onto the attack. With no respite for the Otley defenders. There were some unsavoury incidents going on in the close encounters that the officials should have dealt with. This time the discipline of the Warriors was sound, resisting the provocation to retaliate. In the end the referee did take action but sooner would have been more beneficial to the game and the 100's of supporters.

No matter what the tactic it had no effect whatsoever on the focus of the Warriors, it was all about executing the game plan to the best of their ability and the knowledge this would bring them a resounding victory

The Otley defence were forced into several last gasp kicks to relieve their beleaguered line. Their attacks were limited to lonely isolated forays into the Worcester defensive machine who wrapped them up, again forcing Otley to Kick for any sort of gain
As mentioned earlier the backs were showing some flair through Trueman and Hinshelwood. Then along came the return of Chris Garrard.

He had already turned the Otley defence inside out on two earlier occasions. This time the speed of his attack forced a simple error on which he pounced to run round and score under the post

Once again the try being converted by Mr Calm Tommy Hayes.

Otley, then decided at last to attack and have a go for a score and it paid dividends. They took on the Worcester forwards and started to force holes in an almost impregnable defence. But no matter what gaps were made another Worcester player would come in and close it.

Finally a rather silly penalty allowed Otley onto the board

Worcester 14 : 3 Otley

Their first and last scoring moment of the whole game

This was not going to disturb the composure of a team in total control of the game.

Now with the cutting edge of Garrard, who was back with a bang, faster than we had seen him in the last 10 months, Scoring a great individual try and being declared over the goal line stopped him getting a first half hat-trick on his return

We had gone 7 minutes without a score, however 3 first half tries was pretty good show against the 4th side in the league and reputedly having the best pack of forwards in the division.

But do not think that we don't play to the final whistle anymore.

The forwards once again were back into scoring mode. An attacking lineout was taken and the ball driven on. It was then recycled into the midfield where Trueman and Hinshelwood each made yardage towards the Line. The forwards then piled in and drove for the line. No stopping them now and this time it was Snake hips himself  Ben Daly going over for the converted score. Worcester 28 : 3 Otley
