| This game had taken a long time coming. It may well be only the 15th game to the players but to the supporters it was the big one of the season. They responded magnificently over 2000 travelling upto Orrell to cheer on THEIR Warriors. The atmosphere was electric. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This may well have been game No15 for the team but for the supporters this was the BIG one, no hiding from it this was the one to be at, support The Warriors and above all else win, nothing, repeat nothing else mattered. The fans descended on Sixways at 08:00 where a fleet of buses were waiting to ferry us "Up North" Great organisation well done to Maxine and Mike. The horns were distributed amongst the throng of nervous supporters. The noise and atmosphere was building already. We have all done this before, Leeds, Rotherham, but could this be our day, the bottle of champagne was secreted in the rucksack. We had the best team in the league now lets go and do it!!! |

It was all about preparation, in the team of John, Andy,
Phil and the mighty Claire, this team was as best prepared as was humanly
possible. For the first time in 3 years we had almost a full squad to choose from, only the unlucky Duncan Roke was unavailable. The team were focussed and we were there lets get it on!! |

As the warriors came out as a team to warm-up the stadium erupted. It was deafening!! All the way round the stadium they were cheered and clapped. As they warmed up the cheering continued. As they left the ground for their final preparations the ground and buildings shook with the volume of noise. The stadium was packed with over 2,000 screaming Warriors fans, to be part of this day was a great feeling. For those that didn't or could not make it, you missed one of the greatest sporting moments in Worcester's history Even brought a tear to the eyes of Big John and Andy (Gandalf) Keast chief magician and architect |

The players looked cool and confident as the danced to
Knees Up Mother Brown (joke). The hours spent on the training pitch, the classroom, in front of Andy and John and analysing their own performance would now be put to the test here at Edge Hall Road |

Orrell came out in dribs and drabs to muted clapping from
the devotee's. As the players were named the Worcester Supporters cheered so
loud they had to stop the PA announcements as it just could not be heard In the crowd were two Sale players Hanley and Sanderson. Checking out next years competition, maybe? |

| 5 Key members of the fantastic Warriors pack. If these guys were on top form the game would be ours. With the front row (who were too big to fit on the screen) this was the best pack ever produced by Worcester Rugby Club | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Formalities over it was time to join forces and let the
game commence. James Brown playing at 10 with Tommy Hayes in at 15, got the game underway. Let's pick out Alfie and test him out, spot on the button and in came Ben Daley with a massive tackle. From that moment to the last Ben did not take one backward step |

First two minutes saw The Warriors take the game to Orrell at a mind blowing rate and against all expectations went straight for a wide game. However after 3 minutes Orrell took possession and attacked through a very neat short stab grubber just behind the advancing Worcester mid-field. It was a good job Werner was quick to react and covered the attack |

Orrell gained ground setting up yet another replica attack. This time the ball was not released by a Worcester player and Orrell were awarded a penalty in a very kickable situation. Up game Leigh Hinton, a Kings School boy, for his first kick. Hinton is the top points scorer for Orrell and has one of the best strike rates in the country. Was this to be the worst possible start to the game for Worcester with only 3 minutes on the clock. Pressure is an oft used word but this was a fine example. His timing was way off and the powder puff kick fell dismally short. The effect on the Orrell team was enormous and their composure was severely dented. The confidence in their best weapon was never to recover |

This was all the Warriors needed to galvanise them into upping the intensity and speed of the game. Onto the attack they game using their magnificent forwards to drive and make ground quickly into the Orrell half of the pitch. Immediately the Orrell forwards were once again coming in from the side and pulling down the maul. This was to cost them dear as the game progressed. With Ben Hinshelwood hitting long penalties to drive Orrell deep into their own 22. Time for a catch and Drive. But no it was a catch and fast ball out wide just after committing their backrow in. Orrell then paid the dearest of penalties for coming offside in an attempt to stop the ball going wide Tommy Hayes does not Miss Worcester 3 : 0 Orrell |

Scott Barrow kicked off, too long and straight into the arms of the ubiquitous Drew Hickey. Straight into the attack trying to keep the game unexpectedly wide and Orrell on the back foot. It very nearly came unstuck with the Orrell backrow up fast with Gary Trueman just managing to get the ball down for a 5m scrum The crowd held their breath!! |

We may have been having a heart flutter but the supreme
confidence in this Worcester 8 shone through. The scrum was savaged and bad
ball was forced out, then turned over and James Brown relieved the pressure.
Looked simple but physically that was brilliant. Worcester kept up the pressure trying to run the ball from all parts of the field a ploy most unexpected by Orrell. Whenever Orrell were to regain possession, the Warriors backrow and midfield defenders were at their throats like a set of Roetweillers Now was the time for the mighty Craig Gillies to step upto the mark and take center stage. He totally dominated all line-outs ably assisted by Mark Gabey and Drew Hickey |

Again and again the three musketeers took ball off the
beleaguered Orrell jumpers to give Worcester a great platform from which to
attack. Don't forget Ben Daly's pin-point throwing, it isn't just the
catcher! Worcester were winning their set piece scrums with ease. They were solid all day, well done the front row of Windo, Daly and Lyman |

After Orrell's first flush of youthful enthusiasm, Worcester now started to control the territory. Most of the game was now in the Orrell half with some great forays into their well defended 22. Once again penalties were being forced out of Orrell in their continued attempts to stop the flow of ball. Again Ben put Worcester deep on the attack with a fine penalty into the corner. Once again against all the form books Worcester took the ball set up a quick drive to commit the defenders and released their flying threequarters. And again the Orrell midfield was offside. Up stepped Mr Cool himself, Tommy Hayes Orrell 0 : 6 Worcester |
