Travelling down to Old Deer Park, there was much discussion on the awful weather conditions and how the team would adapt.

Confident in the knowledge we now had a team that can take control upfront and play a tight forward game and win comfortably

There was just as much discussion on the Sixways development plan, as outlined in the Rugby Times.

The planned concrete tiered standing, at the North End, would become the preserve of the away fans.

2 to 4000 standing fans in this enclosure will dominate the home fans, the majority of which prefer to be on the sides as Gloucester, Bristol, Plymouth, Orrell

Still, back to this game. Which was about to be played on a waterlogged pitch in driving rain, with a Force 10 gale blowing up from the south

Poor old Ben Hinshelwood having to take an enforced rest, after being cruelly downed by a very dubious "tackle" last weekend. However with David Officer moving back into the center we had classy cover

The two teams came onto the field from opposite ends and would leave the same way at half and full-time.

The cuddles were set and the eyes peered over the shoulders of fellow players as they set themselves for a game both sides wanted to win.

James Brown kicked-off into a gale, giving it that little extra, to make sure the ball got over the 10m with enough time for the Warriors pack to get under it, a fine juggling act that.

As the kick was taken the wind dropped, sending the ball too deep into London Welsh territory. Immediately they drove straight into the open arms of the chasing Warriors, making 5 meters.

That was it!! The warriors turned the ball over and set up a massive driving maul, "This'll sort out the men".

The Warriors 8 had to work really hard to move the defending forwards, but once on the move it rumbled nearer and nearer to the Welsh 22. It was then recycled but a silly handling error saved the defending Welsh.

The resultant scrum was pretty solid form both sides. It was clear the Warriors were going to have to work hard and grind down this good Welsh 8.

The Warriors were playing a faster game, being at the breakdown a full yard in front of the defending players. Ball retention was good with the whole backrow showing to the fore. The games was being played on the ground and big Craig Gillies was showing how good he is in the engine room when called upon to perform for the team.

Once again he and mark Gabey were dominating the line providing a good solid platform for James Brown and his dainty runners, at 15 stone apiece that is a lot of "dainty"

i must say No5 not allowed to interfere, ref missed them all.

The driving mauls were now starting to weaken the defences. But it was not all forward growlers controlling the game.

Werner and James were running the ball from everywhere on the field,  Gary Trueman, David Officer and especially Chris Garrard, were causing mayhem in the Welsh defence, but it was good and hard defence with some really big tackles coming in on the Worcester mid-field.

Finally a drive on the 10 meter line was released to Wes Davies who ran through the whole of the Welsh defence, being stopped inches short of the line. Where sniffer Offy came in picked up the laid off  ball, scoring 10 meters out from the posts.

James Brown was asked to attempt the conversion straight into a howling gale. He hit the ball well, but it seemed to hit an invisible force field and fell vertically at the base of the pasts

Welsh 0 : 5 Worcester

The game continued in the same vein with The Warriors making all the running, attempting to play some exciting rugby in atrocious conditions.

This was not to say there were none of the usual scares. Once again we turned over ball after several phases of attacking rugby, being left wide open on the Worcester Left.

The Welsh attacked and attacked well through their lively back line, however defence is king and Worcester got back to defend where they had been outnumbered 3 to 1. You may say lucky, but they had the skill and ability to recover quickly and secure the ball, setting up yet another counter attack

It was tough out there not just the weather was raining down on the Warriors, Russell Earnshaw taking a beautiful straight right as he lay on the floor, retaliation saved a sending off. Hopefully lesson on discipline learnt.

Worcester then conceded a silly penalty near the 10 meter line, with the following wind this proved to be a simple conversion

London Welsh 3 : 5 Worcester

Mark Gabey and Craig Gillies were no taking all ball at the lineout, the wind making it doubly difficult to get the ball in straight. With all this possession why were the scores not coming. 2 Reasons Welsh defence and over elaborate attacking, good to watch but no score

James Brown once again was bossing the game, deftly mixing his passing game with some very astute kicking.

Chris Garrard was revelling in the possession coming his way, scything through the Welsh defence like a thermal lance, massive power and speed. With Daren O'Leary providing support and mazy running when the right opportunity appeared, these two players alone were worth the entrance fee.

Finally another score from "Sniffer" Officer finishing off another devastatingly fast attack

Half Time -Welsh 3 : 10 Worcester
