The second half got underway with a great kick-off from James Brown. The chasing forwards pressurised the Welsh receivers into a handling error and straight away we had an attacking scrum.

Were we going to be in for fast try restart, well Gary Trueman did his best to oblige. He took a fast ball stepped left and hit the gas peddle, he took off like the well trained thoroughbred he is, through the first line of defence and committed their backrow. In came The magnificent 3 and the ball recycled to the figure of drew Hickey who drove on and linked out to his threequarters' Daren O'Leary creating the extra man of Chris Garrard. But no gas, Chris just did not seem to be at home at all today, a try gone begging in the first 5 minutes

Chris Garrard, Mr Reliable, if there is one man who gives 500% in every game it is Chris. What happened today, you could say everyone has one but it seemed more than that, his concentration was or seemed elsewhere, he was not focussed on the job in hand.

This however did not stop the Warriors surging forward and the crowds built up anticipation during the break was about to be fulfilled, or was it??

London Welsh are a good side and were 4th in the table before this game, they were not about to roll over  twice in eight days!!

The Welsh threw everything at the wall of Warriors lined up before them and I mean everything, their heart, their pride their every ounce of being was given to the cause. The cause was to score first and get a point second and above all else Worcester must not score another point!

The warriors were equally committed, they were going to keep a clean sheet even if no more points were possible. This did not mean no attacking as we all know attack is the best form of defence and some of the defensive tackling was bone shattering. Gavin Pfister putting in some massive wall stopping tackles he was impassable.

Drives and tackles from both teams were full of heart and power no side or player took a backward step.

This may not look pretty to the supporters who had come only to see the running display of a 70 : 0 rout but this was rugby at it's best.

There was a lot being found out during this half, commitment, heart, desire, team spirit, pride you could go on but the big thing was THE TEAM and never losing another game

Gillies and Hickey had the line-outs sewn up, theirs and ours. London Welsh were forced into using a stretched line and throwing short to the front, not once did the ball go 5 meters and on the 3rd attempt the referee noticed it. The Welsh were left with nowhere to go, the ball was being stolen by Gillies and Gabey at will.

But still The Welsh came on they were not going to give up, they drove to the line on several occasions but the final defence was immaculate in that it was unbroken

During this period any doubts about the Warriors defensive capability were just brushed aside. Great defence against Otley when down to 13 m3n, against Orrell, then Bedford and now London Welsh

Defence is the cornerstone of victory and ultimate success in any league especially this and the prem ask The Froth

A line taken by the welsh flyer looks to have flatfooted the defensive line, but look closely that line is solid. Lee Fortey and Mark Gabey just snaffled him up and stole the ball to set up another attack.

This time the ball was driven and then recycled two more time before being released to James Brown and his dainty twinkle-toed flyers outside.

In came Darren O'Leary, the angle and line taken made him cover the ground at a phenomenal rate. The whole Welsh back line was flatfooted and left for dead. It should have been a try but once again lack of concentration from the supporting players meant a try went begging

This did not stop the big winger once again he got himself into the perfect position took the perfect line and had the perfect result A TRY. He deserved nothing less.

This game above all others showed what a devastating finisher he is. The way we now play our rugby most tries will come form short distances out and he is the man for that task, he can see the gap and he has that ability to score.

Look at his record played 4 games scored 4 tries, Duncan your record is under threat here

Guess what?? the conversion was missed again!!!

The warriors 34 : 0 London Welsh

The game was not over and neither were the Welsh going to give up now. We may well have anticipated an avalanche of points from here on in as the welsh team tired. The heart of the welsh players was immense, once again they attacked.

They were totally fixed on the desire to cross The Warriors line.

Here we go again, Craig Gillies soars into the evening sky and takes another great line-out ball.

Matt Evans and Neil Mason had made good impressions since they had come onto the field, both are strong ball carriers making yards every time in possession.

What great depth we have this year

The game may have been coming to it's close but this guy on the left just did not understand the word lose.

He gave absolutely everything to the cause, unfortunately he had come across drew Hickey, Gavin Pfister and the huge Mark Gabey in no mood to take any prisoners. The tackles were thumping in knocking the attacking forwards backwards in the tackle. It was fabulous display of attacking defence from The Warriors

The final whistle went after 5 minutes of extra time, leaving Werner Swanepoel being carried from the field in agony

Observations:

1.  A team game where some of the frailties of the previous game were laid to rest.

2.   What a defence!! Organised and full of desire.

3.   Handling was suspect in the tackles and needs to be watched

4.   We made the breaks but did not finish as clinically as we should have or indeed need to

5.   Some of the passing from the base of the ruck and maul was slow and mis-directed.

6.   Daren O'Leary has arrived, he has shown what he con do in attack when the opportunity arrives. He is a 20 meter specialist not a length of pitch runaway.

7.   Wes Davies looked confident and had a great body shape to his running. The first attempted dummy this season let's see more of  it!!

7.   Gavin Pfister continues to be THE man

8.   Drew Hickey had a great game he makes the transition from forwards to backs sublimely he has pace and awareness. I only hope that the damaged arm he sustained halfway through the second half can be repaired before November.

9.  Once again the whole of the pack played out of their skins at home. lets get this show on the road for the away games

10.   A great result to round off a good month. We have played 4 of the top half teams and beaten them all taking 19 out of 20 available points. Game No5 in 14 days time, away at Manchester time to analyse and consolidate game plans.

You can clearly see the potential in this team. It is a much stronger and variable team than last season. We need to keep fighting away now with our full support. With the ability to bring back Richard Bates, Ben Hinshelwood and David Officer it looks positive
