Wakefield has always held a mixture of memories from the late 60's playing there for Catterick Services to the battle royals  over the last 3 years. It is a long journey up and an even longer one on the way back!

Today was a chance to see our new scrum-half  signed from Natal last week, Neil Cole. The three flyers on the right, Neil Cole, Gary Trueman and Jon Hylton, who's average age is just 22, look good for the future.

After a crowd of over 4,000 last week it was time to perform in front of a small but passionate 350 over half travelling up from Worcester

The away horns were in evidence, I wonder where all the rest have been salted away to?

Now that's what you call a scarf!! Hand knitted by a loving fan.

" WARRIORS "

Onto the field of battle came The Warriors lead by Captain Fantastic, "Tony Windo"

It has always been a hard fought battle, against this very proud side from West Yorkshire. This was not going to be any different. Wakefield were fighting for survival in the division!

Wakefield are the only side to have beaten us this year. In the cup they beat the team we produced on the day by 1 point. It may well have been a very junior side we put out, but you can only beat who is on the field.

Worcester were going to have to work hard for this victory. It would be hard and brutal. Full of passion from both teams

Tommy Hayes, back in at fly-half got the game underway.

Big Craig Gillies was there first just missing out on a great take. Wakefield then gathered the ball. They immediately took the game to Worcester. Driving hard into the Worcester forwards, forcing them backwards.

This was definitely not what the doctor ordered. Strangely the first 2 minutes seemed lethargic and emotionless as the Warriors were forced back into there own 22, with a good penalty kick. For not rolling away!!

However, Craig Gillies stole the first lineout and Worcester countered. The ball was worked wide and into the Wakefield Half

The Warriors then changed gear. With some devastating drives mixed with clever running they were getting control of the game.

Then back came Wakefield through their forwards, who were giving everything. I literally mean everything. There No3 Martin O'Keefe was deep in the action, showing strength and surprising speed for such a big man. He was to star later at outside center!!!

Worcester were now finding the gaps, through Gary Trueman and David Officer. Jon Hylton's first touch showed just how quick he is off the mark with a devastating mazy burst. They were going to have to watch him

Wakefield were being restricted to short forward plays and kicks for position. Maybe against Craig Gillies this was not the right option. Every Lineout was being taken by Craig and Mark

It was a great move coming from deep which saw Jon slip the ball back inside to the fizzing Chris Garrard. Who then sold a cheeky little dummy to go over for the first try of the day.

Tommy Hayes missing the conversion, missing 3 kicks but still achieved 70% success

Wakefield 0 : 5 Worcester

It was now all Worcester. The forwards were taking control, creating a solid platform for the fancy boys to show us what they could do.

We were not to be disappointed!

Back came the beleaguered Wakefield. After defending manfully for a full 5 minutes they managed to work the ball deep into the Worcester 22. This was their opportunity. They were not going to let this go without a score. Again and again they recycled and drove forward. The Warriors defended! Finally the ball found O'Keefe in the center position. He just flew at the defence and hammered into the defenders forcing himself over for a really good try

Wakefield 5 : 5 Worcester

There is no quarter given by this powerful Worcester pack and none expected. They are all fully committed to the winning of this league in style. Lee Fortey and Craig Gillies seen here really going for it.

Craig continued to dominate the line outs. Wakefield continued to kick away any possession, not a good ploy.

The Worcester backs were now starting to show what they are capable of. Their free running and handling was a joy to watch as the rapturous crown cheered them on.

Not only the backs can handle well as the backrow were all joining in. Some great breaks especially from Gavin Pfister who was everywhere. Boy is he on form

The tries started to come! The second try being scored by Jon Hylton. His pace was just too much for the defenders to handle. Twice going outside his man to score. The third was scored by that man Gavin Pfister AGAIN. The fourth and bonus try being scored by the outstanding Jon Hylton. Much of this freedom was being created by the dazzling Daren O'Leary. Who was just sheer class, Wakefield had no answer to his darting runs.

Mark Gabey and Richard Bates were at the heart of it all with some big bullocking runs straight up the middle. Do these two know any other way? I doubt it!

The fifth try of the half was scored by Daren O'Leary, didn't he deserve that. His happy face showing just how much he is enjoying his game at Worcester.

The forwards continued to drive the Wakefield pack remorselessly backwards. No arguments who was the better 8 today. This pack has come of age in the last 4 months. Fully deserving of all the accolades being given.

The half finished with Worcester once again on the attack

Wakefield 5 : 31 Worcester
