Before the main event goy underway we had the U21 Taking on Orrell's 2nd XV.

The forwards at times were under enormous pressure, the speed and skill in the backs gave Worcester the well deserved win 34 : 13

We were back at Sixways with almost a full 22 fully fit first choice players, still absent were, Ben Hinshelwood, Gavin Pfister and Duncan Roke. As Ben returns from OZ this weekend, it is expected the coaches will have a fully fit 33 squad to select from. The problem then comes with, who on earth do you have to leave out.

6 of the starting 15 were coming back from injury, some had been out for over 6 weeks, it was the first time this season this 15 had ever played together. Would this tell? The answer was yes, but it hardly had an effect on the result

It was good to see the dynamic Richard Bates back on the field in The Warriors colours again.

After an awful injury hit season last year this seemed to be going the same way. Now it was time for him to show just what the Sixways crowd had been missing

The massed supporters did not have to wait long.

An attacking series of drives had taken the warriors deep into the Henley half, the ball was  recycled at electric speed, out down the line and there was Richard wide on the right, he sprinted in beating the cover for the first points after just 45 seconds

Warriors 5  : 0 Henley

Worcester were intent on playing fast intense rugby, quickly moving from phase to phase, mixing the lines from forward power to back speed and guile. The handling was sumptuous!

It was attack after attack with Gary Trueman creating havoc in the Henley defence, this guy has been out for 4 weeks, you would never have known it. Drew Hickey once again was orchestrating everything in the forwards, with Lee Fortey playing absolutely fabulous rugby. Lee has really benefited from a move to a fully professional club, he is fit, strong and very mobile. His ball handling in the first 5 minutes was superb

On 7 minutes, the defensive wall finally cracked and Chris Garrard stormed over for his first league try of the season, following his try last week in the cup.

The backrow of Mason. Hickey and Bates were having a great game, Hickey with his tackling and linking skills, Waggers with his powerful running carrying all before him and Richard with his speed and strength at the rucks and mauls

You could call this the terrible trio.

From left to right, Hickey, Waggers and Brownie, any one of these could have been man of the match.

Once again James Brown was in good form but not quite what we have had over the last 4 games

Craig Gillies was once again in commanding form in the lineout and Big Ben Daly was spot on with his throwing the whole game. The back of the line predominantly taken by Drew Hickey but changes were rung to ensure Henley were always trying to second guess where the ball was going. The signals were right and the timing was perfect.

Ben Daly  along with Lee Fortey and Neil Mason were putting in some massive hits when Henley were in possession. Whenever they gained possession, Henley were on the attack and did it with some fine well organised phases. Henley are a big side who are more than capable of playing some fast adventurous rugby. They will do well this season!

However all the danger was coming from The Warriors!

The rugby was utterly compelling in it's execution, speed and effect on the game. Brown was setting up his players with space to show their paces, Trueman and Hayes were linking well, cutting through the Henley defensive line at will. With Daren O'Leary and Wes Davies the springboards. The crowd were in full voice when once again a penalty gave Worcester a 5 meter line out. The ball was taken at the back and the drive set up. Once again the sheer power and movement of the Warriors pack was too much for yet another side.

Tony Windo scores for Warriors 19 : 0 Henley 20 minutes

Henley then came back onto the attack and in some style, causing The warriors to concede two penalties.

The a moment of sheer magic, Gary Trueman made a break through the middle. With two defenders coming in to tackle he slipped a beautiful ball to Tommy Hayes coming at speed, TRY. Tommy's first for the club 33 minutes.

For the next 7 minutes it was nip and tuck with first Worcester gaining ground only to lose the ball rather diffidently and Henley taking every opportunity to attack.

This is where the missing game time was missed. There were times when the ball carrier was left isolated, this had to be sorted before the game lost it's shape. there seemed to be just one too many handling moves attempted, over complicating the game. However execution during a game will bring massive benefits through the season

Just before half time Henley once again on the attack forced Worcester to concede yet another penalty.

Up stepped Reeves to convert his third kick of the game

The half ended with:

Warriors 26 : 9 Henley
