Paul Westmacot Audio Report Andy Keast Interview Plymouth
At last after 3 weeks on the road, at Wakefield, Henley and Penzance it was back to Sixways for a Big, Big fixture.

Plymouth are a team in fine form, unbeaten since November. Having seen off Orrell quite convincingly at Brickfields.

This was a meeting of the two in form clubs of the division!

The supporters from Plymouth were clearly in evidence having travelled all those miles up the motorway. Almost 4,500 people were at Sixways to enjoy what should be a rugby spectacular.

Poor old Bill almost got his wallet out, hand sneaking in there. Bradders once again filled the stadium with his razor sharp dry humour as he introduced the two teams to the expectant fans.

This was the 22nd league game of the season, could The Warriors win again and equal the fantastic record set by Rotherham last season

The juniors rightly took center stage as they received their presentations. A photo call with Tony Windo being a the big highlight for their day.

Both teams came out to screams and whistles from their respective fans. Needless to say with 4,300 fans The Warriors received the loudest cheer.

As the mouths went dry, Plymouth got the game underway with a long drop out. The ball was well caught and recycled for Christian Evans to go on the charge. Unfortunately he lost his footing and over he went, the first mistake of the day. Remember it because there were not many more after the first 20 minutes.

In came Plymouth trying to turnover the ball. The Warriors were quickly on the scene in big enough numbers to secure the ball, with Hayes kicking out for the safety of a long touch upto the 10 meter line

The game was fast and hard with Plymouth taking the honours for the first 5 minutes, with Worcester defending for their lives. It was a tight well organise defence that kept the West Countrymen from going over the line for a very quick score.

Gradually Worcester extricated themselves from a very dangerous situation

It was a hard game with no quarter being asked or given.

Worcester were now starting to ask the questions, at the scrums, rucks and especially at the maul. Plymouth lost ground on every maul, but then so did Worcester, when defending. It was nip and tuck all the way with two powerful sets of forwards playing hard uncompromising rugby

It was obvious that whoever was to take control would have to do so on the back of hard, hard graft.

We had two fully professional sides well organised and coached, playing at the top of their game. Both teams in fine form.

The power of Mark Gabey and Christian Evans mixed with the ubiquitous nature of Gavin Pfister's Drew Hickeys play was starting to pay dividends. Very slowly Worcester were breaking down the Plymouth tactics.

Who would believe that Craig Gillies would lose a ball on his own throw, but he did. Testament to the determination and ability of this Plymouth team

Plymouth now started to take the leading role. setting up a big determined attack out on the right. Their forwards won a decisive lineout after a racking clearance kick from their talented flyhalf. The pack came in.

Drive after drive was hammered into the defending warriors. Again and again it was held, repulsed and finally driven backwards. Back came Plymouth, determined to convert the pressure and possession into points. Worcester equally determined to stop them.

Stop them they did, forcing a penalty and getting a good kick away to touch against a very strong wind

31 minutes gone and neither team had scored although both had, had their chances.

From the penalty clearance, Drew Hickey took a great ball. The ball was sent wide out to the right and then back inside again. The ball was lost, the relieving kick only found Daren O'leary.

Instantly Daren knew what he was going to do. He took off stepping inside the first defender then chipping over the incoming defence. He took the ball on the run and accelerated.

He was being forced  wider and wider. Jon Hylton on the wing saw his channel disappearing and came inside screaming for the ball!!

Daren, slipped a beautiful ball back inside, around his back.

Jon Hylton took the ball. Still 30 meters out on the touch, he stepped sideways three times leaving players wondering where he was. He then accelerated and cut through the last line of defenders to score under the posts.

Class, balance, pace and determination from both players, created one of the best tries scored at Sixways. There was even better to come

Just look at the determined expressions on these faces. No one is going to back down here.

6 minutes later after a considerable amount of pressure a ruck deep out on the Worcester right was won and ball recycled to Hayes. Tommy shipped the ball to Gary Trueman, coming in on a fantastic line. He twisted past the first defender committing the outside center. Forced the to take the tackle he slipped an absolute peach to Ben Hinshelwood who stormed through unopposed under the posts.

It sounds OK but when seen at full pace it was incredible rugby, worthy of this premiership team in waiting. A try of super skill and controlled execution.
