Tuts' Audio Report The John Brain Interview
Here we were back at Sixways after a previous weeks thumping by the best club in Europe. Could we once again turn it around and bite back?

The barstanders looked serious but they were more than ready for this game. It was 2:0 to the Irish, would it be 2:1, or 3:0

Just Wait and See!!

The faithful Irish supporters had bedecked the North Stand in their green, white and PINK.  Yes pink, I believe from the Fat Bloke 7's colours. Someone from LI is sure to correct me. It looked very pretty on a grey miserable day.

James Brown, who was carrying a head injury  was out there warming up. The club decided not to risk him and played Tommy Hayes. Who then promptly injured his back in the warm-up, we very nearly started without a flyhalf and Ben Hinshelwood filling in. With at least 3 in the pack carrying injuries this was going to be a difficult game to win.

Still they were the team picked and they were the team that would have to do it!!

The two teams were introduced by the eloquent "Bradders".

The teams came out and gathered together on the center line for a minutes silence in respect for the people suffering in the Tsunami Disaster all across the Indian Ocean.

Our thoughts are with every family.

Tommy Hayes got the game underway with a towering kick. The backrow followed by Craig Gillies and Tim Collier stormed into the receiving Irish forwards creating mayhem and causing a knock-on.

How would they cope with the Warriors powerful front five. Not very well, the first scrum was powered backwards with consummate ease

The scrum popped up and was reset by Mr Lander. This time the Irish in desperate states to stop the drive infringed and the first penalty was conceded by the Irish.

Up stepped Mr Calm who stroked the ball beautifully between the posts

Warriors 3 : 0 Irish

We were on the scoreboard, but more than that we had set the scene. The Irish forwards were going to have to work very hard to contain the power of the Warriors pack!

The game restarted and Drew Hickey like an exocet missile fired into the Irish receivers and stole the ball. In came the rest of the forwards and steamed into the Irish pack. The ball was secured and immediately recycled for a pick and drive. Make the Irish work, tire them out, keep their loose forwards in and committed.

The ball was then made available to the man of the match Matt Powell who immediately  went for the gap. This caught the Irish backrow out. Powell put in a great grubber to touch and we had made 20 meters uncontested

In Irish and Warriors we have probably the best two lineouts in the Premiership. It is "thee" key area to win. Both teams were determined to win this phase of the game.

The first lineout went to Irish but under enormous pressure from Tim Collier, forcing bad ball to the Irish halfbacks!

In the Irish backs are some very exciting runners, however they seem to stutter into action, giving the opportunity for the big tackling midfield of Lombard and Rasmussen to get in amongst them. Good to watch from the stands but hard rugby for the Irish midfield as the power or the tackling was forcing them to spill ball.

In came the Warriors backrow with Hickey and Sanderson to the fore, snapping up every loose ball.

The Warriors certainly wanted to win this game and in front of a sell out Sixways, of  passionate supporters, they were super-charged.

The work rate form the Warriors forwards is outstanding.

But Irish who at the start of the game were in 8th place are a side full of passion and commitment as are their wonderfully proud supporters. They started to win ball and attacked through Mapletoft. But they just could not pierce the Warriors defence, they bent it, they buckled it but they could not pierce it.

The confidence grew in the warriors, Irish were not going to score tries! So keep the penalty count down defend well away from the try line and the game would go the way of the home team.

The supporters were in fine voice, hardly taking a rest from screaming the support for their favourite hero's. When one section grew tired another would shout even louder. In defence the supporters were even more passionate as the chant of  Warriiorrs,,,,,Warriorrrs rent the air!

The Warriors set up camp in the Irish 22 applying pressure on the Irish defence which was holding, but only just. A scrum was awarded which the home side won convincingly only for Mr Lander to penalise Worcester for releasing the bind.

Irish saw the chance for a quick counter, took a quick tap and took off. However it stuttered and a kick for position was attempted. In came Matt Powell who charged down the ball and ran on to touch the ball down for the first try of the day.

The crowd rose as one, the noise was deafening the pleasure exquisite

Warriors 11 : 3 Irish

It was Worcester who came immediately on to the attack, could they storm in for another quick try whilst Irish were still stunned, NO!

Back came the Irish, who gradually forced their way towards the halfway line. then a great penalty kick from Mapletoft taking them deep into the Warriors 22. Up went the line, in came Collier (too early) off went Collier for a 10 minute rest.

Disaster, or was it? This Warriors defence is made of stern stuff, they were going to have to defend for their lives for the second time against Irish with a man down. Could they do it for the second time??

Where was the Irish Strength, in the forwards, their lineout.

Worcester were conceding penalties, each time Irish opted for a line kick. Each time they won their line but could not budge the defending Warriors. They were not going to concede any tries.

Try as they might, drive after drive, attack after attack the Worcester defence was magnificent.

When the bal was moved wide the midfield defence was absolutely solid.

Mapletoft tried a grubber but over hit the ball. Half Time!

Warriors 11 : 3 Irish
