Tuts' Audio Report The John Brain Interview
Tonight had to be one of the targeted games for at least 4 league points.

Last week had seen the team fight their way back into shape during the second half at Kingsholm. They were going to have to play above the best of last Saturday if they were to overcome a Leeds team also fighting for survival.

The game had been moved to Friday evening for several reason, the 6 Nations games on Saturday, the encumbrance to the Leeds team and improved bar takings had all been mentioned. However the main reason was atmosphere!

The club had seen and felt the atmosphere created against Wasps on a Friday evening and were extremely keen to enjoy another similar or even better evening Would the evening live up to expectations. Well the sell-out crow thought so as they started to arrive very early. The laughter and camaraderie were high clear indication it was a good decision.

However it was a subdued crowd which cheered the team on their warm up lap.

The teams came out and all fears were dispelled as the Sixways crowd cheered their Warrior Gladiators into the arena. The seen was set as the East stand shuddered into unbelievable noise

As we had come to expect, but was missing at Kingsholm, the warriors stormed into the receiving Leeds players, as James Brown got the game underway.

There was no quarter going to be asked here or given, these warriors were fighting for their land, their kingdom, their Sixways

It was awesome stuff as the Leeds front row were decimated in the first two scrums giving away a penalty within the first minute.

Up came James Brown, who had been practicing until 21:00 the previous evening, calmly stroking the ball which just fell short below the bar. He certainly had not been phased by the personal attacks on his ability the previous week.

Worcester were straight back onto the attack from the kick off. It was wonderful controlled aggression which just swept away the Leeds forwards in all contact areas. The ball was then moved wide, with the backs clearly determined to show that they are a dangerous attacking force. Giscard Pieters making some telling runs down the right

The sheer physicality of the Warriors were sending the Leeds pack reeling. It was constant and relentless, the pressure was being applied. Once again it was the forwards who were in total control as they drove the old man of the team over. Tony Windo scoring his second try of the season, after just 8 minutes the score was

Warriors 7 : 0

The Warriors continued to press forward playing great 15 man rugby giving the crowd lots to cheer about. Leeds had no answer but to defend and keep out this rampaging Worcester team. Quick as a flash James Brown had one chance and hit a beauty of a drop goal to answer the penalty which had been converted by Tim Stimpson

The front row of Windo, Neikerk and Horsman were just too much for the their opposite numbers and with Sanderson leading his marauding loose forwards Hickey and Henderson it was magnificent stuff for the assembled masses of Sixways Supporters.

Hickey and Sanderson were everywhere making big hits whenever Leeds got the ball and always there first at every breakdown. They were certainly making up for last Saturday as those memories faded into the annals of time.

Again and again James Brown set his backs running as they created hole after hole but the Leeds defence is good and several time closing the door just at the right time

Worcester were now camped in the Leeds half as phase after phase of attacks reigned in on the luckless Leeds defenders. Once again it was James Brown who took his opportunity and but over another sweet drop goal, this time with his other foot

Warriors 13 : 3 Leeds

With Phil Murphy, Craig Gillies and Drew Hickey dominating the lineouts there was a great platform being laid for the boys in the midfield to strut their stuff. This is an area we need to generate a better cutting edge. However the distribution from Brown was enough to creat the half gaps, which should have resulted in at least one score

The half was coming to an end and as yet Leeds had not created a single scoring opportunity. The crowd just wanted it to continue. Before the half time whistle the magnificent forwards once again forced another penalty as the Leeds front five crumbled before this irresistible force.

Up came the man of the moment James Brown who coolly converted it to take the half time scores to

Warriors 16 : 3 Leeds

Out came the NPowerettes looking great, giving a great half time performance, well done ladies.
