Out came the teams for the second half. With Sixways packed with euphoric Worcester supporters the noise was deafening. The excitement, the expectation were rocketing skywards as Leeds kicked off. The ball was taken in sensibly to the power and safety of the forwards, the ruck was cleared out and Powell picked up the ball ready to kick for position. The Leeds loose forwards were not committed in and the ball was charged down for Snyman to pick-up and stroll over unopposed for their first try. Gloucester again! Warriors 16 : 8 Leeds |

How could they have
the temerity to score a try, how could we be so careless to gift it to them
but we did!! The steely determination in the eyes of the Worcester players said it all, "you'll pay for that!!" The next 10 minutes was all and I mean all Worcester as they hammered the Leeds defence nearer and nearer to their own line. For five minutes they lay siege to the Leeds try line, twice having overlaps and twice taking the wrong option. held up over the line twice in the meantime. Then came the turnover and an awful kick out of defence from Stimpson |

Was it awful?
Well yes it was but between Powell and Delport they conjured up the best
attacking Leeds move of the night. With all the time in the world Powell
passed to Delport who took and age to clear, the ball was charged down,
again and in went Leeds. A hint of a knock on from the Northstanders, but
another 7 points from our own making.
Warriors 16 : 15 Leeds Leeds were never going to win it themselves but could Worcester lose it? They were trying their best! |

Now came the steel,
now came the desire, now came heart. This Worcester side is full of it all and they were determined not to throw this away. They were the only team in this game. They had dominated all aspects of the game from the very first minute. A team with fantastic team spirit. A team with great supporters. The noise had just got louder, as Sixways got behind their team. No recriminations we were in this together players and supporters. United we will win, you could feel it, taste it there was going to be nothing but a victory to Worcester at Sixways tonight!! |

If you though the
forwards had been good up until now then they just raised their game to even
great heights. They destroyed the Leeds pack at the scrum, they took total control of the line-outs and blew away anything on their path at the breakdown. Attack after attack, drive after drive that sapped the energy of the manful defenders but there was only ever going to be one outcome. Pressure, pressure and even more pressure was applied to the Leeds defence but it held. they also wanted to win but a losing bonus point could be vital |

The penalties stated to mount. Again and again the attacking options were taken. Scrum after scrum was taken the Leeds pack were in all sorts of trouble as the Warriors front 5 shunted them backwards with ease. Finally a penalty in front of the post was just too tempting and james converted his second penalty to take the score to Warriors 19 : 15 Leeds It was not over as Worcester came back on the attack once more they fully deserved another try but would it come |

The game was now being played completely in the Leeds 22 but their defence of their line was immense. Giving them very little opportunity to create any attacks. Now it was time for the catch and drive, could we drive them over. The answer was no, in one defensive drive Leeds pushed Worcester halfway back to the 22. But is was only a short respite as the warriors returned it with interest. Reagan finding it too mush and being despatched to the bin. 3 consecutive penalties from Leeds on their line amazingly did not result in what should have been a penalty try. James Brown finally finished it off with his 3rd penalty |

The players and
supporters were ecstatic! We had targeted this game and we had achieved. That is now 5 wins equalling Leeds wins for a side newly promoted, with 7 games still to play. It is time for the players to go north as well for there thanks to the crowd there are many supporters up there who want to say well done as well. It was a great win for all concerned, now how would Quins do tomorrow against Gloucester? |

Observations; 1 A great victory that was well planned and almost perfectly carried out. 2. There is no doubt that had we played like that at Kingsholm the result may well have been very different. 3. Phil Murphy in for Tim Collier had a magnificent game against his old club. 4. We have one of the best packs in the ZP with a front row to rival any. They are well coached and technically excellent giving them the edge over many much bigger sets of forwards. 5. In Craig Gillies we have a diamond and to know he has signed for the club until 2008 is a great confidence boost for every supporter at the club. 6. With Drew Hickey's and Pat Sanderson's pace and natural rugby brains we have an extremely dangerous backrow 7. Thinus still is not back to his best, his passing was not what he is capable of leaving players in all sorts of trouble. |
8. The sight of Gary Trueman coming on was wonderful. He added much needed pace to the midfield attack, always breaking through the first line of defence. 9. James brown, after a week where he had taken some harsh words from the supporters, he has shown how confident he is in his own ability. Totally relaxed and alert, he distributed the ball well and licked from hand at the right times. It has to be said not always finding touch, but the chasing players were always there to apply the pressure on the Leeds receivers. 10. Man of the Match is very difficult, Chris Horsman was outstanding but all his work is not always seen or appreciated. James Brown, however is in a very visible pivotal role. It is a very pressurised role for which mistakes are amplified and grasped by supporters. However today he turned in a very good performance after being vilified all week. Shows great fortitude and he gets my Man of the Match. 11. The sheering from supporters has been better, we let ourselves down to-night. The only stand to take any credit was the Southstanders, the rest of us have a lot of work to do when Sale visit!! Now for Quins, this will be a very hard game and one we can win if we all pull together. We need go to the Stoop and turn it into Sixways. Lots of colour and mega, mega commitment and noise from all supporters. This is one away game we can win, but it will be very, very hard!!! |
