Tuts' Audio Report   John Brain Interview
The second half started at electric pace with Montpellier determined to score

In this competition home wins are essential and any away points are worth their weight in gold. Montpellier was determined that if they could not win they would get a losing bonus point and ensure Worcester did not get a try bonus.

They came flying out of the traps with some fabulous enterprising phases of play.

But the Warriors defence was sound!

The determined faces of two key players.

Tevita Tuamepeau and Crag Gillies, Tight head prop and lock extraordinaire. Tevita with the power of a lion throws Craig into the air, who then soars way above the French to take another great ball at the lineout.

Worcester totally dominated this phase of the game

The fitness built up by Phil "The power" Richards now started to make its presence felt as drive after drive drove Montpellier backwards.

However it was Montpellier who struck first with a very good penalty

Warriors 22 : 18 Montpellier

This was to be the last time they would score

Young Uche O'Douza had caught some tough balls in defence and had tackled well. He was however caught out a couple of times in defence not sure of what to do, he recovered well from his mistakes.

Now it was time to see his running skills as he was released down the left on several occasions. Finally with a lot of work still to do he ran, skipped and forced his way over for a great try wide out on the left

Warriors 29 : 18 Montpellier

Worcester were now in charge and it became a damage limitation exercise for Montpellier as time and again their players hit the floor in throes of agony.

The H2O boys we having a busy time!!

Gomersall was having a good day!

He was fully awake and focussed on the game, making some snipes, keeping the French backrow honest

Montpellier started to ring the changes.

It made little difference Worcester were not going to let this game slip away from them.

Tevita and Saiosi team up to cut this break out
Lombard was still running into the holes created by some deft passing from Drahm and running from Hinshelwood outside him.

Time to give him a rest as Mark Tucker was brought on for the last 10 minutes.

One simple try was thrown away after another great break from Delport, the final pass was spooned into the air as Paris snatched at the opportunity

Still Worcester pressed.

They had already got the bonus try, but points may well decide who goes through to the knockout stages.

Finally a great forward drive was rewarded with a fine try from Richard Blaze, who had a good game for his first full outing

Final Score

Warriors 36 : 18 Montpellier

Observations:

  • The ability to offload has improved beyond recognition.

  • we have now started to retain the ball as well as keeping it alive

  • Penalty count was much improved

  • Thomas Lombard was outstanding

  • Lombard and Hinshelwood are forming a good partnership

Observations:

  • Drahm is now showing some speed of foot.

  • Kicking from hand has some way to go but is showing signs of improvement

  • Defence at the turnover is not a strong point with many holes being left for the opposition to exploit

  • Today carried on from Leeds with much attacking enterprise now being shown outside with the runners

  • Now onto Catania. An away win will be fantastic for our chances of progressing in the competition
