What a nice way to start the half time break by winning a years supply of the Black Gold.

Some people have all the luck!!

Our man Cecil was interviewed at half time and showed great composure when asked about the possibilities of taking 4th place this season.

You never know!!

Bristol got the second half started and once again their chasing players were off side. All night they got away with this tactic. maybe it is time for the Touch judges to have the authority to call offside at these points.

It was now time to consolidate and hold the massive concerted attack that would surely come from the Bristol team.

They did not disappoint, coming at Worcester with some great attacks however the Worcester defence was more than capable of snuffling out any attack

Once again we saw some great attacks set up by the super quick delivery from Andy Gomersall and the calm distribution from Shane Drahm.

Both Andy and Shane are now starting to click together and with this confidence we starting to see the emergence of a cutting edge partnership that will bring massive dividends as the season progresses.

Still the Bristol front were causing the Warriors pack real difficulties. What a difference Van Neikerk makes in that central roll, he is a massive scrummager

This Worcester pack is made of stern stuff and slowly started to take control pf this part of the game.

However it is from the line out and loose play that the danger come from.

Bristol then put on a surge and powered down into the Worcester 10m and as Gomersall went down on a ball and the pack came in to secure the ball a Bristol flyer came in and stamped on Gomersall's head in his enthusiasm to get at the action. Another yellow was applied which would prove to be the undoing once again of a very good defence

The ball was worked back deep into Bristol territory. The ball was recycled and moved right. In charged Salter, who had another good game for Bristol, leaving the opportunity for Drahm to send out a beautifully weighted loop pass to TT.

Now TT is a big man who has a turn of speed over short distances this was enough to draw in the last defender and give a cracker of a pass to Havili who just pressed the go button and was gone. Diving over the line for a second score

Warriors 15 : 3 Bristol

Another 2 penalties saw Worcester go three scores into the lead.

Warriors 21 : 3 Bristol

Bristol had not given up and a piece of good fortune allowed and infringement to be missed and Bristol had scored

Warriors 21 : 7 Bristol

It was tails up time as the foot came off the gas and Bristol cam straight back again scoring a good try which was simply converted.

Warriors 21 : 15 Bristol.

Now it was time for the baying crowd to get back to cheering and lifting their heroes. Possession was essential and Worcester took control driving and mauling their way back into the Bristol half. Under pressure they gave away yet another penalty for stopping release. A massive penalty

Warriors 24 : 15 Bristol

Certainly the relief and the noise levels increased in tandem as the clock started to tick down.

The countdown clock certainly adds to the adrenalin ruches and the stadium atmosphere.

2mis to go then 1.30 then 1.00.

Back came Bristol on a final attack which was halted just inside Worcester's half the referee awarded a penalty as the clock hit 0:00

Bristol could not win!!

But they could get a well earned point.

Strange was given responsibility of an attempted goal. He had shown that this distance was at =his limits and on this cold day it would take a supper effort from him to convert.

The crowd hushed as he approached, the ball just fell short and Drahm thumped the ball deep into the East stand as the referee blew for full time.

The crowd and the players exploded this had been a very hard won victory

Observations:

  • What fight, what spirit what a team?

  • Noise from supporters built up and by the end of the game was fantastic.

  • There is no doubt that this Warriors team has strength in depth a very hard fought victory against a very capable team

  • Bristol look a very good side which should be able to sustain a mid table finish

  • Gomersall had a cracker of a game and is now building a good relationship with Drahm

  • Once again the lineout was superb lead by Craig Gillies but both Hickey and Murphy were outstanding

Observations:

  • We nearly got caught out by a simple counter with no-one in that half of the field to defend.

  • In attack we are now looking dangerous with speed and power coming from Delport and Havili. Both had very good games especially Delport who was very nearly my man of the match

  • Man of the Match has to go to the outstanding Drew Hickey who was everywhere, in defence and attack he was peerless

  • Now it is on to Franklyn's gardens and Northampton. It is an opportunity that 100's of supporters could turn into a great victory. BE THERE FOR YOUR CLUB!!!!
