This galvanised the Warriors and lead by Kai Horstmann who had a fantastic game they started to take control of the game.

We saw some Campese like showboating from Lee Best (believe me you are no Campese).

Then the night was ignited as Marcel Garvey just ripped the defence apart

Garvey was busy looking to be involved wherever he could and he looks very dangerous. With him on one wing and Havili on the other we will have two very dangerous strikers.

The Italians at the set piece and at the mauls took the Warriors forwards apart. There is going to have to be some hard work here

One of the crowds favourites from last season Saiosi Vaili was in good form as he made inroads into the Warriors defence. However as the game went on he was stopped dead in his tracks on several occasions by the massive Gavin Quinnell

Gavin who came on for the last 20 minutes looked very good and at one stage drove right through the middle of a maul and sprinted 20 meters to score a try which had the south stand on their feet

In the lineout we were safe but never competitive on their ball.

But I cannot remember losing a ball or giving bad ball to either of our scrum-halves

For most of the game Nick Runciman played and he was very good indeed. His speed of pass to James Brown was excellent.

he also cause problems around the base and took the right options all night scoring a really neat try at one stage. the backs all lined up down the blind side, Nick took off with the ball on the open followed by Kai Horstmann. Kai ran really wide draw out and away their loose forward defence. This left a barn door gap that Nick hit the go pedal and screamed over the line.

A very good try which had the stadium hooting and cheering for joy.

It was not luck, it was not desperate, it was a perfectly executed training ground move which worked like a dream

Now for individual tries you do not need to look any further that that scored by james Brown in the second half.

The ball had been driven through 2.3 phases, a peel of the side committed the loose forwards and Powell released Brown. He accelerated wide and shaped to give his long pass to the dangerous Garvey.

However, he pulled the ball back, stepped inside and hit the gas. In just half a yard he was through the defence and screaming towards the whitewash.

A Great try which once again was played out in front of the packed South Stand. They rose as one, as did the rest of the stadium and saluted a great try.

A half yard of extra pace has come from the close season, this will make James a very dangerous flyhalf!

The second classic try came earlier in the first half.

The ball was worked majestically into the bottom right corner of the East and North Stands.

It was once again driven on for two phases and the ball was fired out (this time by the electric Runicman) and a perfectly timed pass saw our very own Gary Trueman burst through and a perfect line as he ripped through like a hot knife through butter.

On his outside was the ever available Miguel Avramovic. However Gary wanted this try and he stormed over between the sticks.

The crowd and the players loved it, a classic try of which we have not scored in 2 years in the Premiership.

It really ahs to be said at this point that James Brown was having a very good game.

In the first half his kicking from hand was short but he was kicking into a Force 6 Gale.

In the second half this was rectified and he hit some beauties.

His distribution both long and short were very good indeed. the short pass has always seemed to be a problem of timing - he got it right tonight.

His place king was exemplary getting 5 out of  5.

Midway through the second half we saw Saiosi carried from the field with a serious neck/back injury. Reports indicate he is improving nicely.

We all wish him well on his recovery.

Observations:

1.  First full bloodied practice game went well, there are obvious areas which did not go so well at the start but improved as the game went on.

2.  There is no doubt we have a gem in Marcel Garvey, I can see him coming a crowd favourite very quickly.

3.  Kai Horstman was outstanding in all he did and deserves to keep the shirt.

3.  The scrum was not good and did not improve as the game went on. We did not have one solid scrum!

.

4.   Showboating looks good but does little else maybe concentrate on fitness and obvious attacking skills

5.  In Runciman and Powell R we have two scrum halves with very fast accurate passes, both are strong and fast and prepared to take on the opposition. Matt will have to work hard to keep the shirt this season.

6.  many many more positive points than negative. It will be interesting to see how the team develops over the next game and how they play against HC team Calvisano.

A Good Start to the season
