Trev's Audio Report The Andy Keast Interview
Welcome to all the new supporters amongst a massive record crowd of 8,477. The day was perfect, bathed in hot sunshine with a hint of a breeze. Glad to be watching and not playing in this heat.

The Sixways Suite was finally completed after some sterling work by the club staff and contractors right up to six-o-clock Sunday morning. It looked and felt fantastic. The view from the veranda will quickly become one of the favourite spots in the club.

At 11:45 there were small numbers entering the ground many just to excited to sit at home and wait for an appropriate time to turn up

As the crowds and atmosphere began to grow Newcastle peacefully entered the ground, with their players quickly coming onto the ground to get a "feel" for the stadium.

One of the attractions being JW who came out to do some acclimatisation, with some slick passing moves.

Many of the Falcons were out prior to their organised warm-up, to relax them and prepare for the game ahead after a long journey down the previous evening.

The Club President along with usual culprits were taking up their usual positions. Alan looking excited about the prospect of the first ever Premiership game to be played at Sixways.

There was much excited talk about how we would fare in the game, could we sneak a victory? All was possible, if you believe enough

Out came the nPowerettes to treat us to some well choreographed footwork. Out came the Warriors to start their warm up routines.

Both groups looking resplendent in their new attire and all perfectly in time

We had heard that Ben Hinshelwood had had to pull out early Sunday morning due to back spasms. The captaincy being handed to Pat Sanderson, a very experienced leader and captain. H e started the warm-up leading from the front, immediately displaying confidence and leadership.

The crowd were now in full voice, the excitement and expectation were almost palpable. In the party atmosphere along came the Mexican Wave. Wave after wave of cheering fans circled the stadium, even the Westies were seen to rise and cheer. It was magical stuff, would there be a fairytale ending to the opening chapter of The Warriors first season in Premiership rugby. Time will tell!!

Out came The Falcons to a great reception from the packed and delirious home crowd.

The music started, the clapping was held in anticipation of the arrival on the pitch of The Worcester Warriors. Where were they?? Eventually on strode the team.

The whole stadium just erupted into a cacophony of sound, cheering, whistles, horns and the thunderous rumble of stamping feet in the east stand. The sound from "The Easties" was terrific what a great stand that is for amplifying and throwing out the cheers

The scene was set, the time was right, James Brown dropped out and we were off!!!

It was now, no more dreams it was happening right before our eyes Worcester were playing their first ever game in the Zurich Premiership and didn't it feel good!!

We all knew it would be big increase in skill, power, speed and intensity. It was not going to be easy! Had the team prepared well, were they capable of lifting their level of play, would they earn respect. We would soon find out.

From the kick-off the giant American Luke Gross took his first ball and never looked back he had an immense game and looks a really good and powerful player. The ball was secured but The Warriors were up and at their throats. The ball was knocked on and we had our first scrum. It was not good. We won the ball and recycled fast out to the left and attacked.

A series of attacks were executed quickly and were well directed, forcing Newcastle to kick for touch to relieve the first wave of attacks which they knew would come.

the first lineout set the standard with Craig Gillies soaring above Gross and taking a perfect ball.

Things were looking good, early days!

The pressure was being applied through some bone shattering runs from Gary Trueman, who constantly broke through the first line of tacklers.

Finally a penalty was conceded in front of the posts and up came James Brown to score the first ever premiership points for Worcester

Warriors 3 : 0 Falcons

From the kick-off the Warriors were soon back onto the attack through their backrow drives around the rucks and mauls. Worcester were pumped up with emotion and adrenalin giving them that extra pace and strength. They were at the breakdown in numbers and recycling fast ball keeping Newcastle on the back foot.

Another penalty conceded for not allowing the release gave Worcester another 3 points and all was working well. Or was it?

From the very first scrummage it was evident that Lyman was having a tough time being lifted back onto his locks with seeming little effort. Was he still suffering from his injury? Was he really fit enough to take on a premiership front row. The first two scrums saw us lifted and driven backwards far to easily. We then got a grip of the pack and started to hold steady.

The effort from Tony Windo and Neil Lyman was "enormous". They never once gave up, they worked and worked and worked, but is this step to far as the older statesmen of the team.

However it was still The Warriors asking all the questions, helped by some forced, but elementary mistakes by the defending Falcons.

Worcester were stretching the Newcastle defence one way and then the other, finally a ball was turned over from the scrabbling defence and the ball recycled fast out to the left. The half gap was there! However the pass form Rasmussen was to the floor and not Lombard, the opportunity was missed. At this level you get very few chances and each one has to be converted or you will never win a game

Newcastle then clawed back the game with a 10 point run a penalty From JW and a try from their  No6 McCarthy, who had run through 3 arm wafting tackles. It was good line, he has strength but he should have been stopped. The tackling and cover were just not there

Warriors 6 : 10 Falcons

The last 15 minutes of the half saw the Falcons gain control and apply the pressure. The defence looked capable but there was always a feeling of one slip up and they would be in again.

The Warriors started to lose their composure and conceded numerous penalties 2 of which were converted

Warriors 6 : 16 Falcons
